If one shock is stiffer than another shock, there are 2 things to look at. 1) how large the size of the spring stock is, that is used to make the coil. 2) how tightly wound the spring coil is made. Yep, springs have very little to do with ride quality. Ride quality is more a function of the shock absorber and air pressure in the tires.
